05 Oct Victor Fernandez Lopez won the wave riding competition on Sylt
Victor Fernandez Lopez won the waveriding contest at the Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup. In a high-class final the Spaniard could beat Marcilio Browne from Brazil and ended up first for the third time.
“These were very tough condition on the water and because of that I am very happy to win the competition. Sadly I could defend my world championship title, but I think after such a great season Philip deserved it”, the winner said.
Already on Wednesday, Philip Köster won his fourth world championship title. In the fight of position three, he could beat Alex Mussolini from Brazil after a stunning performance. The third place was enough to win the championship. Besides Köster, also the other German participators showed great performances. Moritz Mauch, Klaas Voget and Dany Bruch ended up on a shared 9th place. With a bit more luck, Klaas Voget could make it to the next round. “I had some bad luck during my heat. I always was in front and my opponent just won with his last trick.”
In the afternoon, the second round of the ladies competitions had started, but could not finish because of the weather conditions. Steffi Wahl as well as Lina Erpenstein from Germany are still part of the competitions.
